The Blessed Woman by Debbie Morris
Learn from women in the Bible
For many Christian women, mentors are important. It's important to have an older lady who can mentor you. It's also important to pass on what you know to a younger woman who can benefit. But what if, as a young married lady, your circumstances were such that you had no one around to mentor you? That's exactly the situation Debbie Morris had, many years ago. She turned to the Bible and found that some of the women in it, while they could not be physically present to answer her questions, provided great examples for her in times when she needed them. In the book, The Blessed Woman, she shares what she learned from some of these great role models.

Role Models in the Bible
Debbie Morris' concept for this book is brilliant. When we, as Christian women, are faced with various issues in life, who better to consult than the role models God gave us in the Bible? After many years of being in women's ministry, the author knows our struggles. Having been married for decades, having raised children, and having coordinated large ministries, she has seen or heard it all, it would seem. In this book, she points to how we can learn from Hannah, the mother of Samuel, about letting go. She takes on the controversial topic of submission (which always generates eye rolling and sighs) and uses Esther to show us what it really means. It's often misunderstood, and the author does an amazing job of propagating better understanding of it. She also uses Mary to show us what to do when God gives us tasks or instructions that might seem like an interruption of orderly life. These are just a few examples. There are lots of other women (good, bad, and in between) in the book's twelve chapters that can shine a light on difficult paths in life.
I loved this book.
I found myself, while reading it, finally letting go of things I had been trying to hold on to for years. It's much better to give everything to God!
